Local man charged after Walmart bomb threat

A Holts Summit man has been charged with making a bomb threat Monday at Walmart on West Stadium Boulevard in Jefferson City.

Carl Rhoads, 36, is charged with one count of making a terroristic threat in the third-degree, a misdemeanor.

The incident was reported at 3:50 a.m., when an employee found a note in a bathroom indicating a bomb was in the store, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The store was evacuated and closed to the public for about two hours while it was searched using explosive-detecting K-9 units.

Store video shows Rhoads entering a restroom at 3:17 a.m., the last person there before the note was discovered, according to the probable cause statement.

When questioned by authorities, he admitted to leaving the note and said he "enjoys the chaos and corruption caused by his action, but never intended to harm anyone."
