Looking for a safe place to trick-or-treat or a haunted house thrill?

Jefferson City area Halloween events are underway and continue through Oct. 31.

TUESDAY, OCT. 24

  • Meet Edgar Allen Poe, 7 p.m., Missouri River Regional Library, 214 Adams St. Veteran actor Clint Winn will portray Edgar Allen Poe for an evening of poetry and short stories in the art gallery.

 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 25

  • Trunk or Treat, 5 p.m., Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4930 Old Lohman Road. Hot dogs and chips served at 5 p.m., followed by trunk or treat and games at 6 p.m.
  • The Haunting of Green Berry: A Halloween Revue, 8 p.m., 1824 Green Berry Road. A free Halloween show featuring dancing, a light show and a special appearance from the "Clown of Green Berry."

 

THURSDAY, OCT. 26

  • Zombie Night Live, 6-9 p.m., downtown Jefferson City. Thousands of zombies will converge on downtown Jefferson City for the last Thursday Night Live of the season, featuring live music by Richard Parker and Contagious, as well as a zombie flash mob choreographed by Larinda McRaven of McRaven Ballroom.
  • Haunted Hallways, 6 p.m., Jefferson City High School, 609 Union St. Co-sponsored by Council for Drug Free Youth and JC SADD and designed for middle and high school students. Enter through the band hall. Must have student ID to enter.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 27

  • Scream One Trivia, 6-10 p.m., Avenue HQ, 621 E. Capitol Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., with trivia to begin around 6:30 p.m. Pizza and snacks provided with soda and water available for purchase, BYOB welcome. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes for 10 spooky rounds of trivia with 10 scary questions. Cost is $25 per person or $200 per table; walk-ins welcome. Proceeds benefit Scene One Theatre.
  • Field of Screams, 8 p.m.-midnight, Taos Countryside Park, 6200 Colonial Way, Taos. A half-mile haunted trail designed to frighten and scare you, making you confront your worst fears. Recommended for ages 20 and older. Admission is $10 per person.
  • The Haunting of Green Berry: A Halloween Revue, 8 p.m., 1824 Green Berry Road. A free Halloween show featuring dancing, a light show and a special appearance from the "Clown of Green Berry."

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 28

  • Safe Trick or Treat, 1:30-3 p.m., Heisinger Bluffs, 1002 W. Main St. Residents will pass out candy at Heisinger Bluffs and St. Joseph's Bluffs.
  • Halloween Carnival for All Ages, 2-4 p.m., Osage County Library, 1014 D Main St., Linn. Family-friendly games and Halloween fun.
  • Trunk or Treat, 2-4 p.m., Holts Summit Lions Club, 116 E. Hillcrest Ave., Holts Summit.
  • Harvest Fest, 2-5 p.m., Southridge Baptist Church, 1815 Vieth Drive. Grab your costumes and enjoy free games, bounce house, prizes, food, photo booth, cake walk, popcorn and more.
  • JCPD Haunted Precinct, 4-8 p.m., Jefferson City Police Department, 401 Monroe St. Enjoy a night of fun, prizes and treats, with carnival from 4-5 p.m., costume party at 5 p.m., and haunted hallway from 6-8 p.m.
  • Spooktacular Fall Festival, 4:30 p.m., YMCA of Callaway County, 1715 Wood St., Fulton. Glow run and youth mile will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by 5K at 6 p.m.
  • Bowlloween, 5:30 p.m., Lincoln University Bowling Center, 819 Chestnut St. Cost is $25 per person or $125 per five-person team for a chance at the $250 grand prize. For more information, call 573-681-5398.
  • Jefferson City Community Band Concert: "Stories and S'mores," 6 p.m., JCHS Little Theater, 609 Union St. Halloween-based theme will feature arrangements such as "Danse Macabre" and "Funeral March of a Marionette."
  • Trivia Night & Optional Halloween Costume Contest, 6-9:45 p.m., Marine Corps League Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment, 4925 Business 50 West. Trivia for six-person teams costs $60. Proceeds support detachment's projects and charities.
  • Turkey Barn of Terror, 7-11 p.m., 30404 Rocky Hill Road, California. The haunted house that started in 2004 for a group of high school students has become a community-wide event. Volunteer performers put on a haunted house inside an old turkey barn.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 29

  • Mickey's Halloween Bash, 1-3 p.m., Capital Arts, 1203 Missouri Blvd. Each participant will create a Mickey Mouse Halloween painting on an 11-by-14-inch canvas. As paintings dry, participants will enjoy trick-or-treating around the gallery. Cost is $25 per painter.
  • Jefferson City Jaycees Trunk or Treat, 2-5 p.m., Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds, 1445 Fairgrounds Road. Proceeds will be donated to Operation T.O.Y.S. Admission costs $1 per child accompanied by a parent or guardian to stroll around the track.
  • Trunk or Treat, 3-6 p.m., St. Margaret Catholic Church, 12025 Route W, Osage Bend.
  • Trunk or Treat, 5-7 p.m., Immanuel Baptist Church, 706 Ohio St.
  • Trunk or Treat, 5-7 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, 618 Halifax Road, Holts Summit.
  • Trunk 'r' Treat, 5-7 p.m., Court Street United Methodist Church, 719 Court St., Fulton.
  • Halloween Drag Show and Costume Contest, 5-8 p.m., Capitol City Cinema, 126 E. High St. "Night of the Living Drag" will include pre-show cocktails from 5-6 p.m., followed by drag show from 6-8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
  • Halloween Party for Kids, 5:30-7 p.m., Central United Church of Christ, 118 W. Ashley St.
  • YMCA Halloween Trail, 6-7:30 p.m., Firley YMCA, 525 Ellis Blvd. Bring your ghosts and goblins in their Halloween costumes for some not-so-spooky fun for everyone. This spooktacular event will feature trick-or-treating, fitness challenges for children and door prizes.
  • Multi-Church Trunk or Treat Block Party, 6-8 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe St. Hosted by First United Methodist Church, First Christian Church and First Baptist Church.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 30

  • Little Ones Fall Costume Dance Party, 10-11 a.m., Daniel Boone Regional Library, 710 Court St., Fulton.
  • Trunk or Treat, Linn Living and Rehab, 196 Route CC, Linn.
  • Howlin' Halloween, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Missouri River Regional Library, 214 Adams St. Come in costume and enjoy Halloween-themed carnival games, costume parades, book bingo and snacks at the library art gallery.
