Stories like "Aladdin," "The Cat in the Hat" and "The Wiz" were brought to life as performers from MidMo Conservatory of Dance showcased their talent for patrons at Missouri River Regional Library on Monday.

The performance - titled "Help! I'm a Prisoner in the Library" - was part of the music company's annual recital that encompassed non-competitive dance.

The dance company, located in Tebbetts, has been around for seven years, offering dancers as young as 3 the opportunity to learn clogging, tap and ballet. The conservatory also offers classes on how to play string instruments like the guitar, the violin and its bass counterpart, the viola.

Jennifer Winkelman, director at MidMo Conservatory of Dance, said the goal of the show was to encourage children and parents alike to read books. The theme this year was focused around books, so the performance emphasized how fun reading can be.

"While we live in the digital age, sometimes it's just good to pick up a book and read," Winkelman said.
