A lane in the Jefferson Street and Stadium Boulevard roundabout is now open as the project nears completion.

The eastbound lane of the 800 block of Stadium Boulevard is now open, but the 1300 block of Jefferson Street will remain closed.

City Design Engineer Tia Griffin said Jefferson Street has to be connected to the roundabout on the south side, and some finishing work needs to be completed.

Work is set to be completed by 5 p.m. Aug. 15.

Griffin said construction on the roundabout has remained on schedule.

The joint project with Cole County began last summer to address traffic backups onto U.S. 54 from the Jefferson Street off-ramp, as well as congestion on Stadium Boulevard.

The dual-lane roundabout will have a right-hand slip lane coming off the U.S. 54 exit ramp from Stadium Boulevard to Christy Drive. The project will also widen Stadium Boulevard to Trinity Lutheran Church's driveway.
