The Tipton R-6 School Board voted June 8 to post the job vacancy created by the resignation of Superintendent Daniel Williams, who has accepted a superintendency at another district.

The board set a salary range of $90,000 to $110,000 for the position, and also decided to use the Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) superintendent search services.

At the board's regular June 12 meeting, the board approved use of the MSBA superintendent search service. In addition, several bids were approved. The bid of Vox Box was approved in the amount of $8,145.99 for purchase of a new sound system for the football field.

G&R Roofing's bid of $14,570 was approved for removal and replacement of the roof on the weight room. The board accepted a bid of $19,415.79 from K.A. Dutcher for new flooring for the kindergarten room, business and marketing classrooms and the band room, after removing the risers.

The bids for asphalt sealing, striping and new asphalt were rejected for the teachers' parking lot north of the playground and the new gravel lot south of the agriculture building. The bids were to be resubmitted by June 16.

In other business, Tara Melton presented a report on the elementary library. She reported that about 300 students kindergarten through sixth grade are served. The library contains about 11,170 books, and more than 700 audio-visual materials which are available for teacher use. There were 26,713 total items checked out in the 2016-17 school year, with 26,328 being books.

Andrea Buerky presented a report on the high school library. She reported that about 295 students are served in grades seven through 12. The library contains about 15,528 books. These include reference, non-fiction, professional and fiction. She reported that efforts are being made to keep the non-fiction current, but those books are generally more expensive and not as popular with the students. She said that biographies, sports, hunting and fishing go over well.

It was also announced that the Missouri State Highway Patrol annual school inspection gave a 100 percent approval rating for 2017. The district will receive the Total Fleet Excellence Award.
