Late-night icing may delay Sunday newspaper deliveries

Lower temperatures and late-night precipitation delayed deliveries of most routes for the News Tribune on Saturday morning.

With forecasts of more ice coming after midnight, deliveries of the Sunday News Tribune and Fulton Sun may be delayed, as well.

"The main roads were great Saturday, but the gravel and secondary roads were simply too dangerous for carriers to drive in the morning," said Michael Johns, circulation director for the Central Missouri Newspapers. "As temperatures climb, the ice begins to melt and roads become safer, carriers will attempt deliveries later Saturday."

With another wave of ice and freezing temperatures arriving about midnight Saturday, carriers may face more delivery issues with the Sunday newspaper.

"We anticipate that deliveries of the Sunday newspaper may be delayed due to the forecasts," said Gary Castor, News Tribune managing editor. "We moved print deadlines earlier Saturday evening in the hopes of getting papers delivered and carriers home before the storm hits again."

Readers will have free access to our Sunday edition stories on our websites, newstribune.com and fultonsun.com, in the event their paper route isn't delivered by Sunday morning.

Seven-day subscribers to the News Tribune do have full access to our e-edition on our website, as well as access to our iPad and mobile editions. During regular business hours, customer service representatives can help readers set up access to those digital editions.

Added Johns: "As roads become clear, carriers will deliver missed copies of the papers to subscribers. "We apologize for any inconvenience to our subscribers, but appreciate their patience and understanding as we strive to keep our carriers safe."
