The installation of new windows at the Cole County Courthouse and Courthouse Annex has been stopped after the county facilities manager found several of the windows had not been put in to the required specifications.
At Tuesday's County Commission meeting, Facilities Manager Greg Camp said he had talked with officials from the Wilson Group of Greenwood, which was awarded the project after coming in with the low bid of $861,405 last November.
Work started at the beginning of April to install the more than 400 windows, but after Camp called and a supervisor backed up Camp's observations, the installations were stopped and will not resume until the windows where problems were found are taken and fixed.
Camp did not say how long it would take to fix the problems.
The window installation is to be completed no later than Oct. 31.
Courthouse windows were put in wrong in the
mid-1970s, but the effort to get new ones didn't come until the past few years when continued water leaks around the windows were leading to other structural problems at the facilities.
In other commission news, the county was given a "clean" audit by Williams Keepers Accountants for 2015.
At Tuesday's commission meeting, company officials said their figures showed the county had total revenues of nearly $39.5 million in 2015, compared to $38.1 million in 2014. Expenses went down from nearly $35 million in 2014 to nearly $34 million in 2015. All accounting records were found to be in good order.
