Historic Preservation Commission puts off review of demolition ordinance

Jefferson City's Historic Preservation Commission will wait until after its July meeting to begin review of the proposed demolition ordinance, which it voted to reopen at a special meeting last week.

At its regular meeting, the commission agreed it wanted to have additional comments from city attorney Drew Hilpert and Janice McMillan, director of planning and protective services, before proceeding for a second time.

Members in the meantime will research the matter further, including comparison with similar ordinances in other historic cities.

In other business, the commission:

Received an update on the overlay district project following the 2005 Central East Side Neighborhood Plan.

Agreed there would be no adverse effect if Community Development Block Grant funds were used to update electric at 1321 Gordon Court, built in 1968 and which sustained fire damage this spring.

Released for demolition a 1924-built, brick garage shared by 1723 and 1725 West Main St.

Released for demolition adjacent properties at 2821 and 2827 South Ten Mile Drive, where a Goodwill retail store is planned.
