Directed by Rob Crouse, the play is taken from the '60s movie of the same name staring Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier.

"It took almost two years to obtain the rights for the play and it is a thrill to finally perform the show for the Jefferson City audiences," Crouse said.

When the movie came out, interracial marriage in many states was against the law. The theme was ground-breaking at the time.

"The play is still relevant today, but people today are more tolerant on the racial theme," Crouse said.

"We have a tremendous cast, which includes professional actor Dingani Beza, who is coming to this performance from California where he appears in several television shows," Crouse said.

Beza portrays John Prentice, and the cast also includes: Alan Bailey, Joni Weinbaum, Carly Fischer, Dick Dalton, Mary L Maymay Mason, Zondwayo Beza, Regina Blanchard-Walker and Laura Vedenhaupt.

According to Crouse, the show is interesting, with humor and drama.

A local connection to the play is William Rose, who has family ties in the area and who won an Oscar for the screenplay of the film version.

Technically, the show is pretty simple. Set design is by Nate Grey, and the light designer is Ken Thompson.

"For those familiar with the movie, it will be interesting to see the racial theme carried out in the 2016 atmosphere," Crouse said.
