Foul play not suspected in jail death

The Missouri Highway Patrol doesn't suspect foul play was involved in  an inmate's death at  the Cole County Jail.

The patrol's report indicates Michael Jackson, 39, Jefferson City, died after undisclosed "medical issues" at 10:15 p.m. June 25 while in the jail. He was being held for a parole violation for the U.S. Marshal's Service.

Sheriff Greg White asked the patrol to investigate, and he said he could not comment on the specifics of the incident until the investigation is complete.

Patrol officials are waiting on autopsy results before completing their report. There was no word on how long it would be before the results would be available.

The patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting the investigation.

Jackson was taken to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment that night. The report did not list the exact time of death, but it did show the Patrol was notified of Jackson's death at 1:48 a.m. June 26, and they were being requested to come to the jail and conduct an investigation.

An autopsy was done at the Boone County Medical Examiner's office June 28 in Columbia.
