Capitol City Cinema to host comedy night, drag show this weekend

Capitol City Cinema is preparing for a weekend of non-cinematic events, with a comedy show planned Friday and a drag show Saturday.

The cinema will present Capitol City Comedy on Friday, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m. Dalton Turner, executive director of Capitol City Cinema, said in an email that the show will feature a few local comedians, including Blake Marduke, Ben Stumpe, Bret Ditty, Suzanna Luther, Wyatt Parsons and Aaron Nickens, “for a night of laughs at the cinema.”

The show will also have Shrunken Head Tropic Lounge setting up a mobile bar to serve some alcoholic beverages, he said. Tickets are $10 and available at capitolcitycinema.org/events. Turner said proceeds from the ticket sales will go toward a new sound system the cinema is planning to implement soon.

On Saturday, the cinema will host the August Drag show at 9 p.m.

“Join us as the queens will be taking over Capitol City Cinema,” Turner said.

The show will feature four drag queens from St. Louis and Shrunken Head Tropic Lounge will be back for a second night to serve drinks.

“There will be lots of lip-syncing, sequins and laughs, so don’t miss this show,” Turner said.

Tickets are $20 and Turner said he expects they will sell out before show time.

Turner said the cinema events are put on thanks to corporate sponsors Hawthorn Bank, Naught-Naught Insurance Agency, Socket Internet and Capitol City CORK & Provisions, as well as the programming sponsor 88.9 KJLU.
