The Mid-Missouri community can celebrate diversity during the annual Multicultural Festival, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday in Jefferson City.

This year's festival will bring a host of new food, activities and entertainment to the community.

The Independent Living Resource Center will host the festival offering booths filled with arts and crafts, jewelry and food. The booths will line the streets along the intersection of High and Madison streets until 3 p.m.

Melissa Cardone, executive director of the Independent Living Resource Center, said there will be a lot of new booths offering activities for kids and different kinds of food, including a booth offering Jamaican food.

"This year will mark 16 years the Multicultural Festival has been in Jefferson City," Cardone said. "This festival highlights the various cultures and sense of the diversity that can be found in our community."

After the opening ceremony, the Capital City Children's Choir will perform, and families will be able to take pictures with the children's character Bob the Builder.

Patrons can also look out for the Mid-Mo Magic Show, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. At about 11:50 a.m., a new lineup will include a dance performance by a Native American group called Beyond the Circle Dancers.

Lincoln University, R2R and BJ Davis will also be present at the festival.
