Jefferson City restaurant inspections from June 2019

Jefferson City's food code requires food-service establishments to be inspected at least once every six months.

Priority violations are items, if in non-compliance, that are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard. Some examples of priority items include improper holding temperatures of foods, inadequate cooking of food items, poor personal hygiene and contaminated equipment.

Examples of core items include cleaning and maintenance of floors, walls and ceilings; open waste receptacles; unshielded light bulbs in food-preparation areas; and missing thermometers in refrigeration units for monitoring temperature.

The food code typically requires establishments to correct priority violations at the time of inspection when possible, pr within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct core violations by a date agree to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

Inspections for June 2019 noted:

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, 2319 Missouri Blvd., one priority violation: knives in clean dish area had debris present (corrected on site) - and six core violations: microwave had splatter debris present; chest cooler had debris in the tracks; debris on the walls in dish area; cove base tile missing near dish hand sink; floors under expo line have debris present; gasket torn on salad cooler drawer.

Wendy's, 2108 Missouri Blvd., one core violation: item in hot holding not at the proper temperature (corrected on site) - and three core violations: lobby soda machine had debris present; no paper towels at hand sink; no soap at hand sink (corrected on site).

Chili's Grill & Bar, 3515 Missouri Blvd., one priority violation: items on make tables not at the proper temperature - and two core violations: seal on wall in dish room in disrepair; debris on wall in dish room.

Convenient Food Mart, 3714 W. Truman Blvd., two core violations: door on reach-in cooler not closing properly; debris in tracks of QBD Cooler (corrected on site).

Daisy Delight, 2715 E. McCarty St., no violations.

Dollar General Store No. 1433, 2114 Schotthill Woods Drive, one core violation: torn seals on reach cooler.

El Jimador, 2930 W. Edgewood Drive, three priority violations: foods in meat prep table above required 41 degrees F, reach-in freezer above 0 degrees F, food at 38 degrees F; mop sink and bar sink have hoses attached with no functioning vacuum breakers present; chemical storage with food in stockroom and mop sink room - and seven core violations: fry basket with torn wires stored in rice barrel, Styrofoam cup used as scoop in flour; maintenance supplies not properly stored at bar cabinets, clean ceiling in kitchen, clean ice maker interior sides and ceiling, repair wall behind mop sink, ceiling tile missing in kitchen, no soap at kitchen hand sink; missing thermometers in coolers, cook's thermometer not observed or used; dumpster area not clean; meat prep cooler door gasket missing, legs missing; door warped, does not shut properly; wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer buckets between uses; no chemical test strips available at dish machine.

Follow-up inspection - three core violations: need accurate thermometers in all refrigerators, need metal-stem cook's thermometers for checking food temperatures; clean kitchen ceiling tiles, replace non-washable fissured tiles with smooth, vinyl faced tiles; dumpster area not clean.

Family Dollar Store, 713 Madison St., three core violations: debris present in bottom of reach-in cooler; accumulation of trash and debris near Dumpster; leaking plumbing near front door.

Capitol Plaza Hotel/Fountain Court Lounge, 415 W. McCarty St., two core violations: unshielded light fixture in walk-in cooler by meat section; wire shelving in Room Service reach-in cooler is delaminating, rusting and needs replacement.

Fuji Japanese Steak House, 3600 Country Club Drive, Suite 512, two priority violations: ice maker interior, kitchen make table knives and top of Coke reach-in cooler soiled with food residue; foods found in walk-in cooler above required 41 degrees F - and three core violations: floor edges under equipment and in corners need better cleaning of soiled buildup; rice scoops in stagnant, non-heated water; soiled lids of trash cans, men's restroom sink faucets lack sufficient cold water flow.

Follow-up inspection, June 14 - one priority violation: walk-in cooler foods at 44 degrees F instead of previous 47 degrees F, need to be 41 degrees F or lower (manager adjusted walk-in cooler thermostat).

Happy Garden, 2803 W. Truman Blvd., Suite C, one priority violation: items at woks for quick service not held below required temperature (corrected on site) - and three core violations: cobwebs found at shrine and equipment storage shelving; rice scoop stored in stagnant, room-temperature pan of water on buffet; some floor tiles missing or broken at dish machine and under woks, floor has grease accumulation near one wok grease trap, hole in floor cover at dish machine allowing venting into the store, unused items stored/accumulating in kitchen by make tables.

Hardee's No. 1500561, 3601 Country Club Drive, one priority violation: item in ice bath at grill side not at proper temperature (corrected on site) - and four core violations: tracks on freezer had debris present (corrected on site); cover missing from air vent over make line; front soda machine had debris present; microwaves had debris present.

Hy-Vee Gas No. 1303, 3723 W. Truman Blvd., no violations.

Imo's Pizza, 706 Missouri Blvd., Suite D, one core violation: ice scoop not properly stored (corrected on site).

Jefferson City Sub Shop, 1902 Missouri Blvd., one priority violation: meats and foods in make table above required 41 degrees F - and three core violations: make table not holding food at 41 degrees F or below; pizza knife handle badly broken; ceiling in women's restroom has opening, stockroom air vent has damaged drywall around vent, kitchen ceiling stained and discolored.
