Wheelhouse Pizza on Rock Hill Road in Jefferson City closed in August.
Wheelhouse Pizza on Rock Hill Road in Jefferson City closed in August.

A locally owned pizza place appeared to close in mid-August.

Wheelhouse Pizza announced Aug. 3 on Facebook the restaurant at 458 Rock Hill Road had closed.

Jefferson City Business License Administrator Cathy Smith confirmed Aug. 25 the business license for Wheelhouse Pizza had expired.

Owners Josh Bates and Sabrina Rademan Bates previously owned Rowdy's Bar & Grill in Russellville. They closed Rowdy's in February 2016 to open Wheelhouse Pizza in June 2016. The restaurant's signature South Chicago-style pizza had a combination of pepperoni, bacon, jalapeno peppers, mushroom and onions. Wheelhouse also served sub sandwiches and pasta and had a full-service bar.

Attempts to contact the restaurant's owners by phone and online were unsuccessful.

The Aug. 3 Facebook post said Wheelhouse Pizza made a sizable donation to Hawthorn Bank after a July 28-29 fundraiser for the Feltrop family. In late July, Troy and Lisa Feltrop died after a carbon monoxide incident at their home. Their daughter was also found in critical condition, but later returned to stable condition.

"It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that Wheelhouse Pizza has closed," the unsigned post by the restaurant said. "We will miss serving Jeff City and our regular customers who have become great friends. Anyone who has owned their own business knows how hard it is. We don't regret taking the chance to follow a dream and appreciate the help and encouragement from family & friends. Please continue to support local businesses & remember to be kind to each other."
