Prep Baseball: Fatima 8, New Bloomfield 1

WESTPHALIA -- The Fatima Comets allowed just one hit Thursday to post an 8-1 victory against the New Bloomfield Wildcats in Show-Me Conference play.

The Comets used a four-run third inning to take the lead. Dylan Schwartze scored the first run on a double play, Max Stuecken scored on an error and Easton Stuckenschneider made it 4-0 with a two-run home run.

Fatima scored three more in the fifth, using a two-RBI single from Matthew Robertson and an RBI groundout from Glenn Berhorst to build its lead to 7-0.

New Bloomfield scored its one run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Chase Bailey.

The Comets created the final margin in the bottom of the sixth when Schwartze scored on an error.

Brody Kleffner collected the win on the mound for Fatima after tossing 5 1/3 innings and allowing one run on one hit and three walks to go with eight strikeouts. Blake Kliethermes did not allow a base runner in the final 1 2/3 innings and struck out one.

Stuecken and Schwartze each had two hits to lead the way at the plate for the Comets, while Stuckenschneider and Robertson each drove in two runs.

Eli Bailey threw the first three innings for New Bloomfield on the mound and took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out one. Gavin Thomas pitched the final three innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts.

Fatima (4-4, 1-0 Show-Me) will be back in action at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Class 1 No. 1 St. Elizabeth in Show-Me Conference action.

New Bloomfield (5-1, 0-1 Show-Me) plays another conference matchup at 5 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Tuscumbia.
