Prep Baseball: Blair Oaks freshmen sweep doubleheader vs. Boonville

The Blair Oaks Falcons won both games of Thursday’s freshman doubleheader against the Boonville Pirates at Vivion Field.

The Falcons won 7-6 in Game 1 and 8-7 in Game 2. Both victories were in walk-off fashion.

In the opener, Zane West hit a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Carson Verslues for the winning run.

Verslues led the Falcon offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kason Lance had two singles and two RBI and Vander Halford added a triple.

Bret Heislen was the winning pitcher, striking out two batters in one inning of relief. Cooper Peters had three strikeouts in one inning and Max Fischer finished with one strikeout in three innings of relief.

In Game 2, Blair Oaks led 7-2 through four innings but Boonville tied the game with a five-run fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Lance scored the winning run for the Falcons with two outs.

Peters had a triple and three RBI, while Braden Schaefer drove in a pair of runs. Heislen added two singles.

Blair Oaks used five pitchers in the win. Blake Kay, Aidan Vidi and Kingston Houston each had one strikeout, while Lance -- the winning pitcher -- had three strikeouts in one inning of relief.

Blair Oaks (4-0) plays a doubleheader Tuesday at Helias.
