Prep Baseball: Truman 8, Jefferson City 5

COLUMBIA -- The Truman Patriots plated six runs in the sixth inning Friday to come from behind for an 8-5 victory against the Jefferson City Jays in the Columbia Tournament at Rock Bridge High School.

The Jays took an early lead with a two-run first inning. Ethan Lipp led off the game with a single and scored two batters later on an error at short hit by Jordan Martin. Martin scored on batter later on an RBI double from Mason Wall.

Jefferson City extended its lead to 4-0 with a run-scoring sacrifice bunt from Eli Miller in the third before Adam Scheperle scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Truman got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Jays answered back in the next half inning when Landon Case, who was courtesy running for Miller, scored on a passed ball to make it a 5-1 game.

The Patriots stormed back in their final two trips to the plate, scoring one in the fifth before their five-run sixth.

Truman sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, using six hits and two walks to help take the lead for good.

Miller got the start on the mound and threw 99 pitches in 5⅓ innings. Miller allowed eight runs on 10 hits and two walks to go with three strikeouts.

Wall led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, while Lipp, Martin and Miller all had one hit.

The loss marks eight in a row for Jefferson City (5-12), and the Jays will be back in action for two games at 10 a.m. and noon today. The Jays will play Hickman in the first game and Sedalia Smith-Cotton in the second at Hickman High School.
