Prep Baseball: Southern Boone 3, C.B.C. 2

ASHLAND -- The Southern Boone Eagles clinched first place in their pool of the Columbia Tournament with Friday’s 3-2 victory against the C.B.C. Cadets.

With the score tied at 2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Jace Wren hit a leadoff single and AJ Evans followed with a double to put the winning run at third base.

C.B.C. intentionally walked Chase Morris to load the bases, but the Eagles finished the walk-off winner on an RBI single to right field by Ryker Zimmerman.

Southern Boone scored its first two runs in the fifth inning, while C.B.C. scored in the fourth and sixth innings, getting a solo home run from Jake McGhee.

Morris had an RBI single for the Eagles and scored the second run on a balk.

Evans and Zimmerman each had a pair of hits.

Brayden Beckmann pitched a compete game for the Eagles. In seven innings, he allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.

Southern Boone (15-3), ranked No. 4 in Class 4, advanced to the championship bracket of the Columbia Tournament. The Eagles will play Fort Zumwalt West at noon to open the four-team bracket at Rock Bridge High School.
