Prep Baseball: Calvary Lutheran 6, Stoutland 1

The Calvary Lutheran Lions used a five-run fourth inning to pick up a 6-1 victory Friday against the Stoutland Tigers to open play in the Cavalry Tournament.

Stoutland scored its lone run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Creed Mathews to take a 1-0 lead.

But the Lions took control of the game for good in the fourth.

Carter Brooks tied the game with an RBI single, Cody Kollmeyer took the lead with another RBI single, Henry Salmons plated two with a single of his own three batters later and Jesse Jorgensen made it a 5-1 game with a sacrifice fly.

Brooks added the game’s final run on an RBI groundout in the fifth inning.

Kollmeyer pitched the first 2⅔ innings for Calvary, allowing one run on five hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts. Jorgensen got the win after throwing 4⅓ innings scoreless in relief. Jorgensen struck out six and allowed five hits and two walks.

Will Kuhlmann finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored at the plate, while Brooks, Kollmeyer, Yutzy and Salmons all had one hit.

The Lions (4-3) will be back in action for two games today to conclude their home tournament. Calvary will play Tuscumbia at 1:30 p.m. and La Monte at 4 p.m.
