Boys Tennis: Helias wins pair of duals in Illinois

ALTON, Ill. -- The Helias Crusaders won a pair of duals Friday, defeating Alton, Ill., and Rockton, Ill., both by scores of 3-2.

In the first dual against Alton, Helias dropped both singles matches. Eli Schmidt lost 0-6, 6-3 (9-11 match tiebreaker) and Kaleb Godwin lost 1-6, 1-6.

The Crusaders won all three doubles matches to take the dual. Elliot Vollet and Coen Loethen won 7-5, 7-6 (7-3 set tiebreaker), Matthew Liebsch and Brock Jennings won 3-6, 6-3, (10-5 match tiebreaker) and Alex Kampeter and Kendall Call won 6-0, 6-1.

Helias split its singles matches in the dual win against Rockton. Vollet won 6-4, 6-2 and Loethen lost 6-7 (3-7 set tiebreaker), 3-6.

All three doubles matches went to a match tiebreaker. Winning for Helias were the pairings of Liebsch/Schmidt (6-3, 3-6, 10-5 match tiebreaker) and Call/Kampeter (6-4, 3-6, 10-8 match tiebreaker). Godwin and Jennings lost 6-0, 1-6 (5-10 match tiebreaker).

Helias (9-2) will play today in a doubles flighted tournament at Alton which will feature 12-14 schools.
