Lincoln University saw an increase in administered vaccinations at their second vaccination clinic Wednesday.

At the first vaccination clinic Aug. 11, only 12 Pfizer doses were administered. On Wednesday, 31 students and staff received COVID-19 vaccines. Leasa Weghorst, director of Student Health and Counseling Services, said the majority of doses administered went to students, and 15 people received their first Pfizer dose while 16 people received their second dose.

Students were offered a $25 gift card for each COVID-19 shot they have received, and fully vaccinated students also were able to enter a drawing for either a $200 campus bookstore gift card, a $500 Walmart gift card or an Xbox. Entries for the drawings will be accepted until Sept. 30, with drawings being held Oct. 1.

"Definitely, the drawings helped and the gift cards (gave) a little incentive," Weghorst said.

Carlos Graham, vice chair of the Capital Region Board of Directors, said he felt the clinic had a "great turnout." Weghorst said it's likely that the Pfizer vaccine getting full FDA approval also helped increase vaccination numbers.

"Especially because we have the Pfizer (vaccine) here, I think that some people feel more comfortable with the fact that it is now fully approved," Weghorst said.

The clinic was held by LU in collaboration with the Community Health Center. LU does not have another vaccination clinic planned and provided those who got their first shot Wednesday with information on where they could go to complete the vaccination process.
