Your Opinion: We're supposed to be the good guys

Dear Editor:

Did anyone watch "Democracy Now" on Sept. 27, about Mansoor Adayfi, a former Guantanamo prisoner from Yemen?

He was kidnapped by Taliban warlords and sold to the CIA and tortured. He was 18 years old at the time.

Adayfi spent 14 years in Guantanamo -- yes, tortured like others there, no charges.

How should I say it, we, our heroes, our military beat, water-boarded, sleep-deprivation, force-fed through the nose till they puke and who knows what else. The jailers there at Guantanamo did this to other humans.

That is what Adayfi said. He and others were humans with families, faith, feelings, knowledge, needs like all of us.

Guantanamo was, is, physical and psychological torture. Our government had other countries do these things also. Gen. Geoffrey Miller was in charge at Guantanamo, or one in charge. Enhanced interrogation, it's called.

Young American males helped run this place, and many young males were prisoners.

It is sick, to me -- evil. Would you want your son or daughter treated this way?

Remember former President Donald Trump wanted to increase the torture!

Every one of us Americans need to know what happens in our wars, our prisons, etc.

I thought we were the good guys! I want us to be the good guys!

This kind of horror, terror, needs to end. Contact your representatives, your senators, your president.

We Americans cannot be this kind of people. Our values should push this type of evil off the earth. Yes, Christian values, any religion. Values must stop this torture of humans!

I see signs that say "pray to end abortion," great! Let's see signs that say, "pray to end torture" too.

If this goes on, we don't deserve a nation, and we will probably collapse and be like the dinosaurs, no more.

Freedom of the press and speech, yes! So we know. Lord save us from ourselves.
