Curators: Lincoln University employees to get raise

Broadway actress to be awarded honorary doctorate

All permanent Lincoln University employees will be getting a raise.

During a telephone conference call Thursday, LU’s curators approved a 3 percent cost-of-living increase to the base salaries of all employees hired as of May 31, to be effective July 1.

For full-time faculty who work on nine-month contracts, the increase is effective Aug. 1.

The board also approved awarding an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree during Saturday’s commencement to Jennifer Holliday, an acclaimed Broadway actress and singer.

Holliday, 55, began her career in 1979 and is known for her work in Broadway hits such as “Dreamgirls” (from 1981–83) and “Your Arms Too Short to Box with God” (1980–81).

She later became a successful recording artist, perhaps best-known for her debut single, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” (a “Dreamgirls” number and rhythm-and-blues/pop hit), which won her a 1983 Grammy award for Best Female Performance, Rhythm & Blues.
