Jays baseball falls to Bruins

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Jefferson City Jays dropped a 6-3 decision Tuesday to the Rock Bridge Bruins in a battle of ranked teams.

The Jays scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead before the Bruins plated four in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Jacob Weirich and Brandon Williams had two hits each in a seven-high Jefferson City attack. One of Williams’ hits was a triple and he scored two runs.

Weirich, Grant Wood and Blaine Meyer had RBI.

JT Bohlken was the losing pitcher, going the distance. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Jefferson City committed two errors in the game.

Jefferson City (21-6, ranked No. 4 in Class 5 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association) will play at doubleheader Saturday in Kansas City against Neosho and Staley to wrap up its regular season.

Rock Bridge, No. 4 in Class 5, is now 22-6.

Jefferson City won Tuesday’s JV game, scoring in every inning in a 9-4 victory.

Cole Aherns, Joseph Travis and Mason Hansen all had two hits for the Jays. Colin Metz and Travis drove in two runs each. Travis was the winning pitcher.
