Casey's liquor license suspended for day

Casey's General Store on Eastland Drive will have a one-day suspension of its liquor license after a clerk sold alcohol to a minor.

At the Liquor Control Board meeting Wednesday, Bryan Wolford, assistant city attorney, said the Jefferson City Police Department conducted a compliance check at Casey's General Store, at 102 Eastland Drive, on March 10. An officer in plain clothes was in the store when an 18-year-old female went in to try and purchase alcohol. The minor successfully purchased a 16-ounce can of Mike's Harder Lemonade without being asked for identification or proof of age by the store clerk.

The clerk, identified in a police report as Jessica Butts, was issued a municipal summons for sale of alcohol to a minor.

Wolford said Casey's General Store has had one prior incident for sale to a minor in 2007, when the store also received a one-day suspension of its liquor license.

The board unanimously voted to suspend the store's liquor license for one day.

The business owner has 10 days to request a hearing. If no hearing is requested, the suspension will take effect April 28.

Debbie Hartley, business license administrator, said JCPD is conducting other compliance checks in the city and anticipates the need for the board to meet again in the next few weeks.
