Missouri softball posts pair of run-rule victories Monday

EL PASO, Texas - The Missouri softball team rolled to a pair of run-rule victories Monday, outscoring UTEP by a combined 25-4.

The Tigers opened the day by beating the Miners 15-4 and followed it up with a 10-0 win, both of them coming in just five innings.

In the opener, Missouri outhit UTEP just 11-7, but four of those hits were home runs.

Three of those homers came in a 10-run first inning - three-run shots by Amanda Sanchez and Emily Crane and a two-run blast by Sami Fagan.

Taylor Gadbois launched a grand slam in a five-run second inning.

Gadbois ended up with two hits and four RBI, while Fagan had two hits and two RBI. Rylee Pierce and Kirsten Mack added two hits and one RBI apiece.

After Danielle Baumgartner worked the first inning and allowed one earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts, Cheyenne Baxter (1-0) pitched the final four frames to get the win. She allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four.

In the second game, Missouri (22-4) outhit UTEP (12-20) by a whopping 15-1 margin.

Baumgartner (9-1) pitched all five innings to get the win, striking out two.

Chloe Rathburn had a three-run homer for the Tigers, while Sanchez and Fagan had three hits and two RBI apiece. Crane added two hits and two RBI, Gadbois had two hits and one RBI and Pierce had two hits.

Missouri (22-4) returns to action today at home against Northern Iowa with a single game set to start at 4 p.m.

The Tigers will resume Southeastern Conference play Saturday at Alabama. The three-game series will run through Monday.
