MU baseball rallies to top Southeast Missouri State

COLUMBIA - The Missouri baseball team snapped a three-game skid Wednesday at Taylor Stadium, defeating Southeast Missouri State 13-6 thanks to an eight-run fifth and a five-run eighth.

The win split the two-game series and improved the Tigers to 14-6 on the season.

The Redhawks scored three in the first and one in the fifth to lead 4-0 before the Tigers exploded for eight runs in the bottom half thanks to five hits, six walks and two wild pitches.

Connor Brumfield, Shane Benes and Brett Bond each singled in two runs.

A Ryan Howard sacrifice fly added a run and Brian Sharp scored on a wild pitch.

Four more walks and an error helped Missouri add five in the eighth.

Howard reached on a throwing error to lead it off. Jake Ring and Trey Harris each walked on four straight balls by two different pitchers to load the bases.

After a strikeout, Benes walked for the first run and Sharp singled to right to drive in a pair.

The Redhawks then made their second pitching change, but Bond walked to load the bases again.

Ian Nelson reached on a fielder's choice, allowing two more runs to score.

Zach Lavy and Nelson each had two hits for the Tigers.

Benes drove in three runs, while Brumfield, Sharp and Bond each drove in two.

Cole Bartlett (1-1) earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in 22/3 innings of relief.

Ryan Lee started the game for the Tigers, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Austin Tribby pitched 11/3 innings of relief, only allowing one hit and striking out two with a walk.

Sharp struck out one and walked one in a no-hit ninth.

The Redhawks had nine pitchers take the mound, with each walking at least one batter. SEMO pitchers walked 11 Missouri batters.

Alex Siddle (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits with a strikeout and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

The Tigers will resume Southeastern Conference play at 6 p.m. Friday at No. 1 Florida to start a three-game series.
