Lake of the Ozarks to be setting for Netflix show

Jason Bateman's new Lake of the Ozarks-based series, "Ozark," has landed on Netflix.

According to a Deadline.com Feb. 25 article by Nellie Andreeva, Media Rights Capital (MRC) Studios and Aggregate are producing the project, which was taken out last fall and has been in negotiations at Netflix for about two months.

Bateman is the star, executive producer and director of "Ozark," working with rising writer Bill Dubuque, who wrote drama film "The Judge." The series takes its name from its setting at Lake of the Ozarks and focuses on drug-money laundering, according to Andreeva's article, which was also shared on MRC's website.

As director, Bateman will be involved in establishing the creative vision for the series, working with Dubuque. The two executive produce with Mark Williams. Chris Mundy has come on board as showrunner, the article said.

"Ozark" is slated for a start of production this year. According to Andreeva's article, the show joins JRC's roster of pay cable/digital series that includes Netflix's original scripted series "House of Cards," as well as Starz's "Blunt Talk" and the upcoming "The One Percent" and "Counterpart" for Starz.

Bateman most recently has focused on feature films; however, he did also return to television to reprise his role in a new installment of "Arrested Development" for Netflix, which earned him a second Emmy nomination, the article said.
