Sedalia man accused of seeking sex with minor

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Sedalia man faces a federal charge accusing him of trying to arrange sex with a 14-year-old girl.

The U.S. attorney's office in Kansas City says in a release that 71-year-old Paul Robert Cannon was charged Friday with trying to induce a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity.

Prosecutors say a Boone County detective responded to an online ad that Cannon posted seeking sex with minors. The prosecutor's office says the undercover detective pretended to be a woman with a 14-year-old daughter and exchanged emails and texts with Cannon in which Cannon detailed his intentions to have sex with the teen.

The detective arranged to meet Cannon at a restaurant, where he was arrested.

Online court records don't list a lawyer for Cannon, who is due in court Monday.
