Helias wins wrestling title at Warrensburg Invitational

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Three Helias wrestlers earned individual honors while the Crusaders captured team honors Saturday at the Warrensburg Invitational.

Helias finished with 185.5 points to top the 16-team field. Sedalia Smith-Cotton was second at 176.5, while Oak Park was third at 172.5.

Evan Winder at 106 pounds, Randy Salaz at 113 and Nick Carr at 160 all won individual titles.

Winder (37-5) went 5-0 with five pins in winning his title. None of the matches reached the second period, including a win in :39 against Bret Minor of St. Thomas Aquinas in the championship match.

Salaz (31-12) also was 5-0 in the tournament, winning three times by fall and once by technical fall. Salaz posted a 9-0 major decision against Jesse Parham of Westminster in the title match.

Carr (23-17) went 3-0 to win his weight class, which was a round-robin. He won twice by decision and once by major decision.

Taking second for Helias were Zack Carr at 120 (3-1 in the tournament), Drake Winder at 126 (4-1 in the tournament) and Dustin Luebbert at 138 (4-1 in the tournament).

Nick Schnieders at 132 (3-2 in the tournament) and Spencer Ainsworth (3-2 in the tournament) were both third. Jordan Kemple was fourth at 195 for Helias. Will Farmer at 145, Andrew Bennett at 170 and Mason Field at 285 were all fifth and Colden Imhoff was sixth at 152.

Helias is back in action Tuesday at Waynesville.
