Lincoln trio honored by MIAA in track and field

The Lincoln Blue Tigers claimed three of the four Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association track and field athlete of the week honors for their efforts at the Missouri Southern State Invitational last weekend.

• Roger Blake was named the male Track Athlete of the Week after taking third in the 200-meter dash with a conference-best 21.65. That is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and is eighth this season in NCAA Division II.

Blake, from Manchester, Jamaica, also helped Lincoln's 4x400-meter relay team finish second in its event in 3:19.42. Other team members included Miguel Barton, Winston Edwards and Faedeon Royes.

It is the second time this season Blake has earned the award.

• Sedeekie Edie was selected as the male Field Athlete of the Week after posting the top distance of any Division II competitor at the Invitational at 24-feet, 11 inches. That is the second-best distance in Division II this season and an automatic mark for the NCAA Championships.

Edie, from Kingston, Jamaica, also finished sixth in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 47-feet, 101/2 inches.

This is Edie's first time being selected for the award.

• Jhevere Hall was named the female Track Athlete of the Week. Hall set a conference-best mark in the 600-yard run (1:24.04).

Hall also ran on Lincoln's winning 4x400-meter relay team that finished in 3:53.15. Other team members included Willomena Williams, Monique Thompson and Shanice Clark.

Hall, from St. Catherine, Jamaica, also earned the award last season.

Lincoln is back in action Friday at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan.

Lincoln had several top finishes on the women's and men's side at the Invitational.

For the women:

• Lincoln had four of the top five in the 200-meter dash - Venicha Baker first (24.61), Yanique Ellington second (24.73), Kimberly Bailey third (25.02) and Ladonna Richards fifth (25.38).

• Lincoln swept the top three spots in the 60-meter dash - Bailey was first (7.67), Ellingtonwas second (7.80) and Richards was third (7.84).

• Diana Cauldwell was second in the women's long jump 18-73/4 and third in the triple jump 39-33/4.

• In the 4x400-meter relay, the Lincoln B team of Ebony Rose, Ellington, Shaw and Brown was second (3:57.07), while the Lincoln C team was third with Kimberly Bailey, Ladonna Richards, Chrisdale McCarthy and Tajera Lawkin in 4:01.32.

• The distance medley of Thompson, Williams, Clarke and Hall was second in 7:17.41.

• Monique Thompson of Lincoln was second in the 600-yard run in 1:26.23, Shanice Clark was third (1:27.19) and Kissi-Ann Brown was seventh (1:31.82).

• In the 400-meter dash, Williams was second in 57.40.

• McCarthy finished fourth in 60-meter hurdles (8.97) and Nadia Harriott was fifth (9.00).

For the Lincoln men:

• Jeromia Riley was first in 600-yard run in 1:12.19. Kevon Robinson was third (1:14.15) and Alva Henry was seventh (1:15.96).

• The distance medley relay team of Riley, Barton, Alva Henry and Robinson was second in 10:40.02.

• Royes finished fourth in 400-meter dash (49.73) and Edwards was fifth (50.59).

• Thomas Orneldo was fifth in the long jump at 23-71/4.
