Suspect in Hannibal area shootings captured

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) - A man suspected of fatally shooting a woman, critically wounding her husband and shooting a northeast Missouri police officer has been captured.

Police say the suspect was taken into custody Wednesday, one day after he allegedly shot and ran over Aaron Gauch at a home just outside of Hannibal, then a few hours later went to a Hannibal home and killed Gauch's wife, 30-year-old Brittany Gauch.

Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn says the suspect was spotted in nearby Monroe City and shot at an officer who stopped him. The officer returned fire. Police say both men were struck in the leg.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting was not released. The suspect has not been formally charged.

Aaron Gauch is hospitalized in critical condition.
