OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Reilly Smith and Vincent Trocheck scored 8 seconds apart in the first period and the Florida Panthers extended their franchise-best win streak to 11 games with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
Aleksander Barkov also scored for the Atlantic Division-leading Panthers and Roberto Luongo won his career-high ninth straight start behind 30 saves.
Florida's streak is the NHL's longest since Boston won 12 straight in March of 2014, according to the NHL.
Max McCormick and Milan Michalek scored for the Senators and Craig Anderson stopped 13 shots.
In the first period, Luongo made a great save, and on the ensuing play, Smith deflected Jonathan Huberdeau's shot to open the scoring at 12:01 on the Panthers' first shot of the game. Trocheck made it 2-0 after Ottawa's Fredrik Claesson turned the puck over trying a no-look pass from the end boards out front of his own net.
CAPITALS 4, ISLANDERS 1
NEW YORK (AP) - Alex Ovechkin scored his 497th goal, Braden Holtby stopped 34 shots to keep up his stellar play and NHL-leading Washington beat New York.
Jason Chimera, Nate Schmidt and Nicklas Backstrom also scored to help Washington reach 63 points and become the first team with 30 wins. Holtby improved to 26-4-2, including 18-0-2 in his last 21 games.
It was the teams' first meeting since the Capitals won a seven-game series with the Islanders in the first round of the playoffs last season.
Brock Nelson scored for New York and Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves in his first action in nearly three weeks. The Islanders had won four of six and fell to 7-2-2 against Metropolitan Division foes.
KINGS 2, MAPLE LEAFS 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jake Muzzin and Jeff Carter scored third-period goals and Vincent Lecavalier had an assist while making his Los Angeles debut.
Lecavalier set up Muzzin for the game's first goal with 17:07 to play, capping a solid effort in the 17-year NHL veteran's first game since Nov. 12.
Los Angeles acquired Lecavalier and defenseman Luke Schenn from Philadelphia on Wednesday, and both veterans played solidly against the Maple Leafs a few hours after their cross-country flight.
Peter Holland scored a power-play goal midway through the third period, and James Reimer stopped 39 shots in his first start since Dec. 3 for the Maple Leafs. Toronto's three-game winning streak ended in the middle stop of its three-game California trip.
Jonathan Quick made 25 saves to remain unbeaten since Dec. 22 for Los Angeles.
RED WINGS 2, SHARKS 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Petr Mrazek made 35 saves, Justin Abdelkader scored with 6:52 remaining and Detroit got its third straight win.
Danny DeKeyser also scored and Detroit remained perfect midway through a six-game trip. Mrazek has started each of those three games and allowed four goals in that time.
Joel Ward scored for San Jose, but the Sharks lost their third in four games and fell to a league-worst 5-12 at home. Martin Jones had 23 saves.
Abdelkader's go-ahead goal was set up by a coast-to-coast skate from Pavel Datsyuk and a juicy bounce. After Datsyuk got the puck in deep, he whipped it toward the net, and the rebound skipped out into the slot. Abdelkader got it there and fired past Jones for his 13th goal this season.
COYOTES 2, FLAMES 1
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Stefan Elliott scored on a point shot through traffic 1:47 into the third period and Arizona beat Calgary.
Elliott worked a cycle up high with Anthony Duclair before firing through Martin Hanzal's screen. Hanzal was originally credited with the goal, but replays showed the puck deflected off Flames defenseman Kris Russell and not Hanzal.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored to help Arizona improve to 6-1-2 in its last nine. The Coyotes are second in the Pacific Division at 20-16-4.
Louis Domingue made his fifth straight start and made 25 saves for Arizona. The Coyotes picked up five of a possible six points on their three-game Western Canada trip.
Johnny Gaudreau scored his team-leading 18th goal in the first period for Calgary. The Flames lost at home for just the third time in 15 games.
STARS 2, JETS 1, SO
DALLAS (AP) - Tyler Seguin and Patrick Sharp scored back-to-back goals to start the shootout and Dallas ended a season-high three-game losing streak.
Seguin stopped a three-game pointless streak, his longest of the season, with a first-period goal. Mathieu Perreault pulled Winnipeg even in the second period.
Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 of 28 shots in regulation and all five in overtime. Leading 2-1 in the shootout, he turned away Bryan Little to clinch his seventh win in nine games against the franchise that drafted him second overall in Atlanta in 2002.
The Western Conference-leading Stars hadn't lost consecutive games all season before going 0-2-1 on an East Coast trip.
Connor Hellebuyck had 23 saves in Winnipeg's first game since he tied a rookie franchise record with 43 stops against Nashville.
FLYERS 4, WILD 3, OT
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Michael Del Zotto scored his second goal of the game with 37 seconds left in overtime to send Philadelphia over Minnesota.
Sean Couturier scored his fifth goal in nine games and Ryan White also scored to help Philadelphia win its second straight after losing three in a row. Steve Mason made 31 saves for the Flyers and Brayden Schenn added two assists.
A game after posting a hat trick against Columbus, Zach Parise scored with 6:24 left to tie it for Minnesota.
Marco Scandella and Jason Zucker also scored for the Wild. Devan Dubnyk made 32 saves
