Girls Basketball: Steelville 69, St. Elizabeth 40

NEWBURG - Fourth-seeded Steelville used a big advantage in the middle two quarters to beat fifth-seeded St. Elizabeth on Monday in the opening round of the Newburg Tournament.

St. Elizabeth led 11-9 after one quarter, but Steelville came back to lead 28-21 at halftime and 56-33 after three quarters.

Steelville shot 73 percent in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Brooke Struemph had 17 points and six rebounds to lead St. Elizabeth. Regan Wilde chipped in with 15 points for the Lady Hornets.

St. Elizabeth (4-12) will play eighth-seeded Bourbon, a 64-15 loser to top-seeded Cuba on Monday, in the loser's bracket semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday.
