2 arrested for Friday robbery in JC

Two Jefferson City men were taken into custody for a robbery that occurred Friday evening.

According to police reports, just after 5 p.m., Jefferson City police received a call of a robbery that just occurred in the 2300 block of Southridge Drive.

The caller stated that he and another victim were attempting to sell an AK-47, when the potential purchasers/suspects produced a weapon and pointed it at the victims demanding their rifle, cash and cell phones.

The victims were able to leave the residence without being harmed, even though threats were made against both of them.

Detectives were called to the scene and began to investigate, and during the course of the investigation obtained a search warrant for the suspects’ apartment. Although the suspects were not initially taken into custody as a result of the search warrant, they were both located by officers and arrested on charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Arrested were:

1) Edward J. Holmes, 26 year-old Jefferson City male

2) Matthew Key, 27 year-old Jefferson City male

Key is also a convicted felon and faces additional charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Both are held in the Cole County Jail on no bond.

Jefferson City Police also recovered a number of firearms, including the rifle in question, from a location nearby the apartment that the suspects apparently hid from officers. Ammunition and a number of magazines were located as well.
