For the last nine years, the Capital City Cook-off has been considered the premiere barbecue fundraiser in Mid-Missouri, raising more than $130,000 for the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City.

The 10th edition of the cook-off is scheduled to take place from 5-8 p.m. (or until the ribs are gone) on April 29 at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds.

Organizers said 42 teams, all backyard enthusiasts from Mid-Missouri, will be competing.

More than 1,000 slabs of St. Louis-style ribs will be cooked.

Tickets may be purchased at Scruggs Lumber; Wallstreet Insurance Group; Jefferson Bank, main branch at 700 Southwest Blvd.; Hy-Vee; GPS Financial Strategies, 3218 Emerald Lane; Bowman Commercial Realty; and Hawthorn Loan Center, 132 E. High St.

Tickets cost $15 each, or a 10-pack can be purchased for $120.

Beverages are sold separately.

There are also three raffle packages: A Kansas City Chiefs tailgating package; a Louisiana Grills smoker and accessories; and a premium Weber Summit six-burner propane gas grill.

Tickets for the raffles can be purchased at the Hy-Vee customer service desk.
