Area sophomores make pilgrimage on Tuesday

Several area students will attend the 82nd Sophomore Pilgrimage sponsored by General Federation of Women's Clubs of Missouri.

On Tuesday, the students will tour the Capitol, Governor's Mansion and Supreme Court. They also will observe a legislative session and attend a luncheon at First United Methodist Church.

A sophomore from each high school in the state is selected by the faculty based on the student's citizenship, scholarship and leadership.

Local GFWE of Missouri Dianas Club is responsible for the organization of the event. Coordinator is Kathy Bish. Committee leaders are Joan Solomon, Donna Evert, Jan Sonnenberg, Anne Vogel, Ginny Persinger, June Landrum and Ann Maxwell.

Area students attending include:

Lauryn Brenner, daughter of Russ and Angie Brenner, Jefferson City, is a student at Calvary Lutheran School, where she is in SADD, Key Club and Future Teachers of America. She plays volleyball and in on the track/field team. Brenner is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and is active in the youth group.

Her sponsor is Capital City Woman's Club.

Benjamin Busken, son of Stacy Busken, Morrison, is a student at Osage R-1 School in Chamois, where he is on the basketball team, is in the band and on the Quiz Bowl team.

His sponsor is Capital City Woman's Club.

Cameron Gehlert, son of Mark and Gloris Gehlert, Linn, is a student at Linn High School, where he is in FFA, on Student Council, in Drama Club, Environmental Club, History Club and is class secretary. He is also in the Art Club, FBLA, WYSE and Scholars Bowl. He received the MO Recycling Association's Outstanding Volunteer Award.

His sponsor is Dianas Club.

Paige Luebbering, daughter of Tim and Dianne Luebbering, Jefferson City, is a student at Blair Oaks High School, where she is in FBLA, on Student Council and Spanish Club. She plays softball and basketball amd is class secretary.

Katelyn Sluder, daughter of Joseph Sluder and Patricia Tuttle, Jefferson City, is a student at Jefferson City High School, where she is in the Industrial and Engineering Academy. She is on Student Council and helped with Salute to Service.

Her sponsor is Dianas Club.

Maebrie Turner, daughter of Patrick Turner and Stephanie Laney, Mokane, is a student at South Callaway High School, where she is in FBLA, Trend, Math Relays, Bulldog Nation and Athletic Association. She is a cheerleader.

Her sponsor is Capital City Woman's Club.

Skylar Walk, daughter of Woody and Pam Libbert, Eugene, is a student at Eugene High School, where she is in FFA, on Student Council, in FBLA and is active in the community PSR program.

She is sponsored by Capital City Woman's Club.

Kaylee Williams, daughter of Eva Goss, New Bloomfield, is a student at New Bloomfield High School, where she is on Student Council, in STEM Club, Speech and Debate team, Dance team, Book Club, Art Club and Scholar Bowl. She is vice president of her class and vice president of the New Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department. She is in National Honor Society and on the A honor roll She attended Scholars Academy at Truman State University.

Kendra Winkelman, daughter of Clarence and Susan Winkelmen, Westphalia, is a student at Fatima High School, where she is in FCCLA, Book Club, Random Acts of Kindness, SADD and plays volleyball and soccer. She is a member of EMS Explorers and Catholic Youth Organization

Her sponsor is Capital City Woman's Club.

Erin Wyrick, daughter of Chris and Janie Wyrick, Jefferson City, is a student at Helias Catholic High School, where she is on Student Council, plays varsity volleyball and varsity basketball. She is in Students Against Destructive Decisions and Crusaders for Life. She was Student of the Month, on the all district team for volleyball, Academic All State and is on the A honor roll.
