Jefferson City High School senior Sydney Vogel got a strange text from her best friend asking if she was home, and shortly after, her brother said there was a fisherman at the door.

Dressed in the full fisherman's garb, muck boots included, was senior Charles Nelson. Hanging from the fishing pole was a bronze metal tag with the message, "Will you be my catch to prom?"

The pair had planned to go to Saturday's prom with other friends, but when those plans fell through, Nelson drafted up a way to ask his longtime friend to the dance.

"I was just kind of looking around, trying to think of different ways to ask her," he said. "I go fishing a lot and thought it'd be cool."

Their friendship began in fifth grade when they attended West Elementary School, and they became closer during their junior and senior year while taking advanced placement courses together.

"Charles is really nice and super sweet," Vogel said clasping her fingers together with a toothy smile on her face. "He laughs at my jokes even when I'm not funny. He's always looking out for me, and he made me a gluten-free, dairy-free cheesecake."

Just a day after Nelson asked his date, senior Blake Snyder brought his sophomore girlfriend Lauren Kaullen to Legends Bank where the scrolling sign asked if she could "bank" on him taking her to prom.

Snyder said he's good friends with a bank employee and decided to ask if he could use their sign. The couple have been together for a little over a year and met at a school basketball game.

"I like how she's very outgoing," Snyder said. "She's probably the sweetest person I know. It's why I love her so much."

"He is by my side no matter the circumstance," she said. "Words cannot describe how great of a boyfriend he is."

Also going to the prom are friends Meghan Sanders and Sean Burton. Both are "Greys Anatomy" fans, so Burton put on his brother's white lab coat with a sign that read, "Meg, I know I'm not McDreamy or McSteamy but will you be my person to prom?"

They went to homecoming together and decided to be each others' date to prom as well. She's picked a mermaid-style gown with a black lace bodice and ruffled bottom.

Vogel said she went for a "James Bond" look, with a slim fitting coral red dress and flared mermaid bottom.

She and Nelson described prom as their "last hurrah" before the go their separate ways to college. Even though it's a seven-hour drive, Vogel said she'd make the trek to some of his football games at William Penn University in Iowa.
