Municipal elections today

Polls open at 6 a.m.

Mid-Missouri voters will see a variety of issues as they head to the polls today.

Municipal elections are set today with races for Jefferson City Council and Blair Oaks School Board, plus the renewal of Cole County's half-cent capital improvement sales tax on the ballot.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. During the presidential primary last month there was some confusion on changes in polling locations, and Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer is hopeful people will be more aware now of where their polling places are located.

To find your polling place location, you can call the clerk's office at 634-9101 or go to colecounty.org and visit the clerk's page.

In Jefferson City, one City Council seat is up in each of the city's five wards, with two being contested. First Ward Councilman Rick Prather and 5th Ward Councilman Larry Henry are unopposed as they seek re-election, and Erin Wiseman is unopposed as she seeks the 3rd Ward seat currently held by Bob Scrivner, who is term-limited and can not run again.

Second Ward Councilman J. Rick Mihalevich is facing his first challenge from Bud Fisher, and 4th Ward Councilman Glen Costales is facing a challenge from David Durbin.

In the Blair Oaks School District, three candidates are up for election for two, three-year term school board seats: Kimberley Sprenger, incumbent John Weber and incumbent Greg Russell.

On the Jefferson City School Board, Lorelei Schwartz and Rich AuBuchon were the only two who turned out for the race, so their names will not appear on the Tuesday ballot. They will replace longtime board members Doug Whitehead and Dennis Nickelson.
