Assault suspect sought

Officers forced to end pursuit of Eric Jackson for safety reasons

Jefferson City police are seeking a man believed to have been involved in an assault Saturday morning and who later led them on a vehicle chase that went into Boone County.

Eric D. Jackson, 35, has an extensive history of violence and warrant applications have been submitted on a variety of charges including child endangerment, domestic assault, felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

According to police reports, just after 8 a.m., officers were sent to the 300 block of Locust Street after a 911 call from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, Jackson, was threatening to kick in her door.

According to the caller, Jackson had been calling and texting her all night, then came to her residence and threatened her and her daughter with a handgun. The victim, who was not harmed during the altercation, called police, and Jackson fled the area.

Officers were able to determine that Jackson was on his way to Columbia and shortly after fleeing the area, Jackson was spotted driving northbound on U.S. 63 toward Columbia.

Officers attempted to stop Jackson, but he failed to yield, and the pursuit began.

The pursuit continued all the way to Columbia, but due to the high speeds and reckless manner in which Jackson was driving, officers chose to terminate the pursuit.

The Columbia Police Department and Boone County Sheriff's Department later located Jackson's vehicle abandoned in a residential neighborhood. A K9 unit was deployed in attempt to track Jackson, but he was not found.

The vehicle was taken into evidence by Jefferson City police who towed it back for processing and found a number of items in the car, including narcotics, which were taken into evidence.

Jackson considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Jefferson City police at 634-6400.
