Iowa man arrested in central Missouri arson fires

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say an Iowa man has been arrested in a string of arsons in central Missouri.

Cooper County Sheriff Jerry Wolfe said in a statement Tuesday that the suspect was detained for questioning Monday night and later taken into custody. The Columbia Daily Tribune (http://bit.ly/1G2Dut1) reports that the man is suspected of setting several fires Saturday and Sunday in Boonville and rural Cooper County.

No one was injured in the fires, but two barns were deemed total losses.

Besides the barn fires, a grain truck and a combine were set ablaze. Fires also were started in a cornfield, near a Boonville restaurant and in the grass at a small park.
