Double Whopper: Burger King to open second JC location

Your Whopper run or midnight chicken fries might be getting a lot closer.

Burger King has announced it will open a second Jefferson City location at 1923 Christy Drive, most recently the home of fast-food restaurant JC's Chicken, which closed in early July and replaced KFC earlier this year.

"We knew we needed more than one store in Jefferson City with it being the Capitol and with all the traffic going to the Lake (of the Ozarks)" on that side of town, said Scott Huhn, district manager for Burger King's Missouri market.

The new restaurant, estimated to open this November, will operate in addition to the existing Burger King at 2207 Missouri Blvd. That location will get a facelift in 2016, Huhn said.

Ghai Management Services, the franchise Huhn works for, purchased the rights to Burger King in Missouri within the last two years. They recently completed a remodel of the Burger King on Clark Lane in Columbia.

"We're looking to expand in the Midwest and Missouri next year by at least 20 more stores," Huhn said, noting there currently are 11 Burger King locations in Missouri.

The new Christy Drive location should add about 20 jobs, Huhn estimated.

The ownership group has submitted building plans to the city for a permit, Huhn said, and they expect to begin construction within the next couple of weeks.

"We're really excited and can't wait to get started on it," Huhn said.
