Jefferson City's sales taxes are surging ahead of projections and the city's revenue forecast model is now predicting an end-of-the-year surplus of about $1.4 million.
September sales tax receipts, which reflect the July reporting period, show the city's 1 percent general sales tax came in about $189,000 above projections, with the tax projected to end the year with a surplus of $683,239.
"We're up almost $200,000 for the month," said Finance Director Bill Betts. "(We're) in very good shape on the sales tax numbers."
The half-cent capital improvement sales tax came in $80,304 above projections and is projected to end the year with a surplus of $334,599.
The half-cent parks sales tax came in $80,313 above projections and is projected to end the year with a $336,900 surplus.
The city s revenue forecast model is projecting the 2015 budget will end with a surplus of roughly $1.4 million.
