It took the Pintos almost 100 minutes into the season, but they finally crossed the goal line on offense for the first time, as Dylan Ratcliff punched it in from the 2-yard line. California went on to score three more offensive touchdowns and two on defense to cruise to a 42-0 win against Versailles on Friday.
Leading 7-0 early in the first quarter, Josh Woodruff jumped a route on defense for an interception. He then broke several tackles on his way to the 22-yard score.
Two Versailles drives later, Landon Mouse got in on the action, intercepting a ball at midfield for another pick-six. Mouse ran over a couple of would-be tacklers, weaving through Versailles players on the way to the score.
Late in the second quarter, Jacob Wolken used a quarterback sneak to give the Pintos a 28-0 lead.
On the next Versailles drive, the Tigers went for it on fourth-and-2 on their own 28-yard line with 30 seconds left in the half. California stopped the Tigers behind the line of scrimmage to take over on downs.
On second-and-10, Wolken hit wide receiver Ethan Hodges on a screen, and he then ran down the sideline for the 25-yard score with 16 seconds left before halftime.
California added its sixth and final touchdown midway through the third quarter, as Gunner Baquet punched it in from 5 yards out.
