Your Opinion: Our way of life "becoming a joke'

America seems to be taking a shellacking from everyone here and abroad. Now it appears that everyone is getting into the act. We have students and younger citizens going into some of these foreign countries and causing problems for us back here at home.

Where will all of this end? Why can't our own government take care of these situations without causing a storm and making headlines in the papers. It is with certainty that Obama is having field day with all that is taking place here in America. Problems are surfacing all over the place.

The American way of life is fast disappearing with the influx of illegals and others from all the foreign countries we are fast becoming a nation of anything goes. We certainly rate as a society of excessive bad behavior. As the saying goes, "United we stand; divided we fall." This American can just see the writing on the wall.

It is unbelievable how cheaper-made products have become the buying power in our country. Even goods coming from our own stores are not as nicely made as in previous years.

And good customer service has faded into the background. Upon entering a store, the clerks just stand around looking at the customer seemingly wondering which of them should help the newcomer.

But what really amazes this consumer is when being told they don't have the wanted item. But upon leaving the establishment another person asks if you have been helped. Upon answering yes and no, he asks what you need and his response is "Oh we have that item." And he retrieves it for you. His parting comment is "These younger clerks are lazy and dense."

Another time in another store you report to the clerk that an item has been taken by a female and you saw it being stolen. The clerk tells you that you should report the matter to the manager. But another time in the same store the manager tells you to report it to the associate (the clerk.) So what is the customer to do? There doesn't appear to be a meeting of the minds. While talking to a young mother one day with a baby she let me know that if I ever see her older child of about 4 or 5 taking something she hoped that I or another individual would reprimand her child.

The American way of life is fast becoming a joke for other countries.
