Fatima's Bunch ties state hit record

LINN, Mo. - Sammey Bunch hit a home run and a single hit to tie the state record for most hits in a single season Thursday in Fatima's 8-0 semifinal win against New Bloomfield in the Class 2 District 10 tournament.

The two hits for the senior ran Bunch's season total to 65, matching the record set by Bishop LeBlond's Audrey Glenski in 2012 and North Platte's Regan Nash in 2014.

Glenski and Nash set the record in 29 games, while Bunch needed just 27 to do so.

Bunch will look to claim the record outright when Fatima (18-9) takes on South Callaway at 5 p.m. today for the title.

Also for the Lady Comets, Makayla Buscher hit two solo home runs and added a single. Raegan Huhn had two hits and two RBI and Erin Eichholz recorded two hits.

Macy Berhorst earned the win in the circle, recording eight strikeouts while allowing four hits.
