A federal grand jury has charged a Eugene man with receiving and possessing child pornography.
Officials said Shawn Allen Swan, 39, is a former First Student Co. bus driver under its contract with the Jefferson City Public Schools.
"Even though Mr. Swan was not an employee of JCPS, he did drive a bus with Jefferson City students during the last school year," Jefferson City Schools Superintendent Larry Linthacum told the News Tribune.
"He will not be driving a bus with our students in the future, as student safety is a priority."
Linthacum said district officials don't have any evidence Swan caused problems for the students on his buses.
A person who answered the phone at First Student's Jefferson City office referred questions to the company's corporate office in Cincinnati, Ohio. No one from the Ohio office responded to the News Tribune's request for a comment for this story.
Tammy Dickinson, the U.S. Attorney for Missouri's Western District, said the two-count indictment was filed with the federal court Monday, but was not made public until Swan's arrest and initial court appearance Thursday.
He remains in federal custody at least until the court holds a detention hearing Tuesday.
The federal indictment alleges Swan received and distributed child pornography over the Internet on Sept. 29, 2013.
He also is charged with possessing child pornography between Sept. 17, 2013, and April 30, 2015.
Dickinson cautioned the charges are accusations - not evidence of guilt.
She said Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence E. Miller is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI, the Cole County Sheriff's Department and the Boone County Cybercrimes Task Force.

That indictment was unsealed and made public Thursday upon Swan's arrest and initial court appearance. Swan remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing on Tuesday.
Swan was employed as a school bus driver by a contractor for the Jefferson City School District.
