Lincoln women knock off Rockhurst

Nave hits last-minute layup

Azaria Nave's layup with 26 seconds left Saturday afternoon lifted the Lincoln University Blue Tigers to a 50-49 victory against previously undefeated Rockhurst at Jason Gym in Jefferson City.

The basket gave the Blue Tigers a 50-47 lead. Rockhurst then hit a basket to cut the Lincoln lead to one, but the Blue Tigers were able to run out the clock for the victory.

Zuri Hill of Lincoln led all scorers with 13 points, while Lizzie Nessling pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in the contest. Nave finished with eight points and a team-high three assists. Hunter Yoakum led Lincoln with five rebounds as the Blue Tigers finished with a 43-39 edge on the boards.

Lauren Meyers paced Rockhurst (4-1) with 12 points, while Mary Dineen added 11.

Lincoln led 12-10 after one quarter before Rockhurst was able to tie the game at 25 at the half. The Blue Tigers took a 40-39 advantage into the final period.

Lincoln (4-2) will now have a week off before opening Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Saturday at Lindenwood. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
