Fort Osage defeats Chaminade 63-28 for Class 5 title

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Skylar Thompson threw for four touchdowns and ran for three others to lead Fort Osage to a 63-28 win over Chaminade in the Class 5 state championship game on Saturday.

Fort Osage (13-1) captured its first state title.

Thompson, who has given a verbal commitment to Kansas State, finished the season with 25 passing touchdowns and 21 rushing scores. He hit on 13 of 15 passes for 253 yards and rushed 22 times for 202 yards against Chaminade (12-2).

His 455 combined rushing and passing yards is a state championship-game record, passing Tommy Corwin of De Smet, who amassed 453 yards against Hazelwood Central on Nov. 25, 2005.

Thompson hit Bailey Williamson on a 44-yard scoring strike midway through the second quarter to put the Indians ahead to stay 21-14.

Chaminade was making its first state championship appearance since 1972.
