JC man gets 5 years for drug robbery

A Jefferson City man charged in connection with a robbery in Binder Park over a drug deal gone bad in September was sentenced to five years in prison.

Jared Hayes, 17, of 2100 Louis Circle, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree robbery and possession of a controlled substance. A charge of armed criminal action was dismissed.

Jefferson City police said the female victim was contacted via text message and instructed to meet two men at Binder Park.

When the victim got there, Hayes pulled out a handgun and held it to her head.

Fifty dollars was taken from the victim.

The victim reported the robbery to authorities, and the vehicle Hayes was riding in was stopped not far from the crime scene.

Searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun, the amount and denominations of cash the victim had specified was taken, a small amount of marijuana and a digital scale.
